Assignment
You
will interview two people (preferably a male and a female, so the voices are
distinguishable) about what the best and worst parts of going to summer school.
(or you can pick a better topic)
The
format should look like this:
INTRO:
Some sort of summary statement about how summer can be a time of relaxation,
but may not always work out that way, or whatever you want to say.
TRANSITION:
(Name of person) is a XXX who will miss XXXX.
QUOTE
FROM PERSON A: (make sure this doesn’t repeat what is in the transition.)
TRANSITION:
(Name of Person B), is a XXXXXXX who won’t miss _____________.
QUOTE
FROM PERSON B
ENDING:
Some sort of summary statement, but not
“There you have it.” (ugh…lazy)
OUTTRO:
For Multimedia Storytelling, I am _____________.
*****DO
NOT MAKE IT A Q and A, with you asking questions and the person answering. You
can interview people that way, but your finished piece should sound
professional and polished.
You
will be graded on audio quality, transitions and editing.************
Audio Feature
There are a variety of ways to create a script. Here is my
suggestion:
INTRO: This can be nat sound or you reading your intro. If
you do an intro, make sure it isn’t clichéd or boring. Use ACTIVE voice or
present tense.
TRANSITION: This is you giving us some facts or telling us
about who will be speaking next and why. (Julia Garcia is considered the
Valley’s leading expert on butterflies. Her interest began when she was a
little girl.)
QUOTE: from your source. This can include nat sound, if you
interviewed the person in their environment.
TRANSITION: You, again. Give us some more information and
introduce the next quote.
QUOTE:
(This part can be repeated as often as needed. REMEMBER: you
can also cut to a quote and then introduce them after they speak. This would
just put the transition after their quote. This kind of shakes up the format a
little.)
Also, transitions can be sounds. Then you can go into your
spoken part.
(For instance, you could have a few seconds of the sound of
someone walking through a woods. Then you could say something about the person,
like “Garcia’s day begins early – at 6 – with a walk in the woods to see if she
can find some rare butterflies.)
OUTTRO: This is where you wrap up the story. PLEASE do NOT
end with some silly, happy thing, like “Garcia is a success and should see
nothing else but that in the future.” (BAD) Instead, “Garcia says she’ll
continue her work as long as there are butterflies to study. (pause) For
Multimedia Storytelling, I am …..”

Video News Stories (these are fake, but the production values are decent)
Trumpet Kid (this is done by a professional, but is excellent.)
Public Service Announcements
Mockumentaries and Music Videos
Tired Tires (mockumentary)
Life on the Border (contains one NSF word. The stop action is amazing.)
